Medicine based on heart
Our goal is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of venous vascular conditions.
Bmum is a centre specialising in every area of women’s health. Medicine based on empathy and closeness is what makes our patients trust our professionals.
The angiology and vascular surgery unit
The Bmum angiology and vascular surgery unit focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the venous vascular conditions that characteristically affect women at every stage of life, and very especially during pregnancy.
These conditions mainly include venous disease of the lower limbs and pelvic congestion syndrome.

Types of consultation
At BMUM we have a clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of venous circulatory diseases. They develop due to a malfunction of the valves in the superficial or deep veins of the legs, which prevents these veins from properly returning blood to the heart, causing varicose veins in the legs and pelvis, thrombosis, spider veins, pelvic venous conditions and multiple other problems.
Pelvic varicose vein embolisation: this is a surgical procedure performed endovascularly. Through a small puncture in the arm or neck, an introducer is placed that allows us to navigate through the veins with catheters and guidewires to reach the pelvic venous system. It is performed in an interventional radiology suite.
The goal of these treatments is to occlude the ovarian veins or branches of the hypogastric vein that are not working properly, which lowers the pressure in the pelvic varicose veins and brings an improvement in symptoms. To do this, different devices (coils/Amplatzer) can be placed in the malfunctioning veins to occlude them, allowing pelvic venous circulation to return to normal.
The various treatments for venous conditions have evolved significantly in recent years, with the development of minimally invasive techniques that can even be performed outside an operating theatre.
